The Sketchbook Project 2020 ...
Brooklyn Art Library is a nonprofit organization that has been completely funded by participation since 2006. The Sketchbook Project is an annual event where artists from all around the world can get involved.
You order a sketchbook, fill it up and send it back to be apart of the world’s largest collection of artist sketchbooks. Every participant is sent the same blank custom sketchbook then once completed and sent back, Brooklyn Art Library catalogues it into their system.
Once they catalog it, artists will be able to track where their book travels via the bookmobile and view how often it is viewed in the library. Pretty cool right?
When the sketchbook first arrives it comes with suggested themes for inspiration. For me, I fell in love with the concept of ‘ships in the night’. This is where my theme grew as I then wanted to add more imagination and surrealism - my love for sea creatures definitely helped that! With the inspiration of artist Kerby Rosanes and love of including intricate detail, every double page quickly came to life.
